Greenwich Produce

It's bad enough that Greenwich Produce---my favorite asian market had to go out of business. For years, it was my primary source for gorgeous and exotic fruits and vegetables [relatively cheap].

I could find fresh lichee nuts, pomegranates the size of grapefruits---grapefruits the size of soccer balls [alright, fine--that's a slight exaggeration] fresh FIGS, three kinds of MANGOES imported directly from heaven and those tasty skinny purple japanese eggplants.

I guess they could no longer afford their rent--you have to sell a lot of frisee to keep your digs on Greenwich Avenue.

To add insult to injury--what goes in it's place? Not a cool coffee house. Not a juice bar. Not even a over-priced boutique worthy of only window shopping. What goes in?! Another BANK!!!

That's so depressing.

I can't believe Greenwich Produce is gone... It was un-Greenwich in that an Oriental produce market was dead smack in the middle of the Avenue, but it was part of Greenwich Ave. The lower part of the Ave. will look strange without it.

it does look strange and sad. Those little flower buckets and piles of oranges gave a little life to that part of the ave.
