Boundaries
Hmm. Should I go on and on about how long it's been since I've written blah blah bad blogger, blah...? Nah.
I made a mistake last week that I'm really disappointed about.
I made the mistake of taking on what I knew would be too tight of a deadline. I believed that the client had a 'simple 5 page site' and that he had a 'trade show on tuesday'.
I know better.
Anyone who says 'it's just a simple' site is no where NEAR 'simple' and 9 times out of 10, there is no show--just an opportunity to get at the head of the queue.
What really got me was instead of the client being appreciative that I put all other work aside to meet his deadline [and went above and beyond the call of duty] he became increasingly more demanding and difficult. He went as far as having a rant over something that was completely out of my control---content HE provided.
I guess at this stage of the game, 11 or so years into it, I know better than to let clients push me around. There was a time that I would work all hours and weekends but I know that it is never worth it to burn out.
This guy, though got the best of me. I guess is just another lesson to remind me to be aware of the boundaries and that they are there for a reason.
