13.1

Okay, fine, it's been over a month. That's that, moving forward.
So, Saturday night I decided to do a half marathon on Sunday morning. I knew about it but I hadn't really planned for it. I suppose I've been passively training all along but didn't do any really long miles to prepare. I had forgotten how much I love these kinds of adventures. It's a funny group of people...culturally. People can get away with things that you don't typically see in most other places. Before the run, they're bending over, massaging their ass, hopping up and down and warming up. During the race, they're hocking loogies, farmer snotting, scarfing oranges like crazy monkeys, and hurling their water cups back on the road when they're done drinking. In any other circumstances, these types of behaviours would not be acceptable, but here it's commonplace. There is also this incredible energy with running along with another 3000 people or so. Their energy carries you along. I thought I was the only one who focused on someone ahead of me to tap into their energy....to drag me up the hills...carry me to the next mile... but apparently I wasn't. After the race, some guy came up to me and said, I was behind you the whole race, thank you for the motivation! The whole run felt great. Around mile 12 my feet got a bit tired and it was damn hot yesterday but none of it seemed to matter. The streets were lined with spectators who had garden hoses that you could run under and lots of people cheering us on. The most important thing for me is that I did it under 2 hours. For serious runners, that's no big deal, but for me, a major accomplishment. I will be doing another one very soon.
